It is sort of raining outside. I went out to play. Bonnie came to my house. We went to prayer meeting. In bed Bonnie boxed. I sometimes got her hard and then also she got me pretty hard in my muscles.
My grandmother's diary -- word for word, spelling for spelling, thought for thought, idea for idea -- just as she originally wrote it back in 1944 and '45. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into the life of an 11-year-old Swiss girl in Berne, Indiana.

Dad’s birthday is today.
We forgot to sing happy birthday after morning devotions so we sang at the suppertable. We went down to the ditch. We had fun. The ice was frozen almost till safe but the sun shone and melted part of it. We played blackman the last recess. In the evening we went to the auditorium to a Master Mix program. There were good movies. Moving and speaking

We got up and baked pumpkin pies in the morning. Then we got dressed and went to Church. When we got home we ate dinner and washed the dishes, and then Sam, Elaine, and I went to Horace L.’s to play Basketball. Byrom and Vernan L. came along. I rode on the pony. It wanted to buck me off, but it couldn’t.
