My grandmother's diary -- word for word, spelling for spelling, thought for thought, idea for idea -- just as she originally wrote it back in 1944 and '45. I hope you enjoy this glimpse into the life of an 11-year-old Swiss girl in Berne, Indiana.

We had a big Thanksgiving dinner. Chicken noodles, potato chips, jello, pickles, turnips, carrots, cakes, pies, fridigy bars. I had ½ and 1 bars. We went home and Mrs. F. came on the bus too. About 8 or so mothers were there and children not old enough to go to school.

I would really like to know what a fridigy bar is!! And I bet their potato chips were not like the potato chips we have now. :)
